I wanted to share a new layout I just finished.  My husband and I were at Zoo Atlanta a few years back and he took some really sweet (and silly) shots of me riding the Merry-Go-Round.  I'm not the most organized scrapper.  I don't work on layouts chronologically.  I work on what I "feel" like working on, which basically equates to pictures of the dogs and carving jack-o-lanterns taking precedence over everything else;)

I  began with a sketch by Becky Fleck from her PageMaps 2 book.  I just love her two sketch books.  They both come with a neat set of cards that feature the sketch on one side and a sample layout on the other.  It's perfect to slide into your page planner to get ready for a crop.  Talk about making everyone THINK you're organized;)  Okay, so here's my layout:

On this layout, I was a totally a rub-on fanatic.  All the pattern papers, tags & rub-ons are Foof-ala Summer Collection by Autumn Leaves.  I wish they were still around.  I just loved all the papers and accessories.  So speaking of all those rub-ons, here's a few close-up shots.

And yes, those are ALL rub-ons.  They came out so good, you'd think it was part of the pattern paper.

More rub-ons and handstitching.  I stamped the lines for my journaling for a "stitched look" to tie everything together.

This is a close-up shot of what my title decoration looked like.  I even added rub-ons to the chipboard alphas to make them "match."

I had so much fun making this layout.  It really brought back memories of a bright, sunny spring day and all the fun we had.  Plus, I just adore Merry-Go-Rounds.

I'm planning on entering this layout in two challenges.  The first is Use Your Stuff  #39, Sew Many Possibilities.  This is my second time joining in the fun on that blog.  I love seeing all the wonderful artwork.

The second challenge is for Clear It Out Challenges.  The current challenge is two or more ribbons/fibers.  I used the blue ribbon under my title and also tied knots on my tag.  My second ribbon is all the stitching with floss/twine.  They have a great sponsor for this challenge, Bugaboo Stamps, and you could win seven free digis!  My mom, Joanie's Classy Card Corner, uses Bugaboo Stamps all the time on her cards.  The "senior" images are my favorites;)

Angry Birds and Christmas Trees

I wanted to share some of the projects from our card class this past weekend. First, I want to share our Angry Bird card. My husband is totally addicted to this game and so are several of our friends. My friend Stephanie emailed me the picture of a card made by SewingStamper06 and posted on the Splitcoast Stampers site. It was so cute, we had to make one in our class. I was able to use Make The Cut software and create a cut file for all of the pieces. If anyone would like a copy of those files, please email me. I'll be more than happy to share them! The supplies used: blue sky paper, Michael's, Recollections; woodgrain stamp, Universal Borders, Close To My Heart; Chocolate ink, CTMH; Bazzill cardstock in brown, black, and Red Devil; CTMH cardstock in Garden Green, Olive, and White; rubber bands. The sentiment was printed with black ink and the cloud is a cut file from Silhouette and inked using CTMH Sky ink and a stipple brush.

This card just wouldn't be complete without an Evil Pig...


Origami Christmas Tree Card Instructions:

The sample of this card I'm using here is different from the color scheme we used in card class. I wanted to try something different from the traditional red and green to show how versatile this technique is. Here are the steps...

First, you will need four squares of paper to make the tree shown above. You can make your tree taller by adding more squares. The sizes are 3", 2.5", 2", and 1.5". You begin with your first square. You are going to fold it in half with the back of the paper on the outside after you fold it.

Unfold the paper, turn 90 degrees, and repeat the step. You will have a piece of paper with a "cross" pattern folded into it.




Next, fold the paper diagonally making sure that the side you want to show is on the outside after it's folded. You want to unfold your paper, turn 90 degrees, and repeat step.

Your paper should look like this:


Then you want to fold the paper so it makes a double triangle kinda shape. I'm not sure what to call it, so here's a pic...



Next, take one side of the triangle and fold it until it meets the center crease. It's hard to explain, much easier to see a photo;)


Repeat this step on the other side. When you do, you will have a section of your Christmas tree.


After you have all your pieces of paper folded, add a bit of glue of the back of each folded tree part and stack them together. It should look like this:

Next, just attach your tree to your card, tag or scrapbook page. You can also make a cute decoration by making two of these trees and gluing them back to back. Just insert a bamboo skewer or wire floral stem and put in a container.

Card Idea #5 - Happy "Ho Ho Ho" To You!

Hi Everyone!


It's time for another sassy card idea. I was up in the scrap studio listening to Christmas carols and singing along with Harry Connick, Jr. I grew up in New Orleans, and Harry, Jr. is a staple, kinda like red beans and rice. I got in a really whimsical mood while jamming out to "Must Have Been Ol' Santa Claus" and decided on this really cute and glimmery idea.





I started with a plain white card blank and ran it through my Cuttlebug with an embossing folder. After that, I used Glimmer Mist in Marshmallow to add a little zing to the plain white cardstock. (It's a little hard to see in the photos.) I added a strip of Heidi Grace shimmer patterned paper that I found ages ago at Big Lots. It was 25 sheets for $2. How can you beat that?


The other cardstock is Bazzill Bling. I used a Spellbinders label die. The rest was cut and/or drawn with my Cricut. The "Happy Ho Ho Ho To You" was typed into Make The Cut software with the bezier warp function. I put a black pen where the blade goes and it "wrote" my sentiment. Without unloading the paper, I replaced the blade and cut the circle around my writing. That was such a fun technique, don't be surprised if you see it again;)

The Santa hats are from the Quickutz Silhouette Jingle CD. The pink cardstock is from a Quickutz adhesive paper pack. I then ran it through my Cuttlebug for some texture and used {GET THIS} some pearl cream rub on. Think creamy eyeshadow for paper. It's a really OLD product. It was popular when I first started scrapping about eight years ago. I'm not even sure if it's still on the market. I used sticky paper (http://www.pkglitz.com/) and my soon-to-be famous Snow Angel flock and glitter mix on the hat band and pom-pom.

This is a very whimsical, girly, sassy little card that makes a wonderful girlfriend card. It's also great for a giftcard holder. The design is so easy, making a matching gift bag would be a snap too. Hope this is inspires you in your seasonal pursuits.
