Get Well Soon Easel

Welcome to the Studio! Thanks for stopping by. If you’re visiting from the Card A Day Blog, I hope you’ll stop by again. If you haven’t been to the CADB, be sure to stop by for a daily dose of inspiration. Our theme for this week is get well cards. And let’s face it, with cold and flu season in full swing, not to mention all the crazy weather we’ve been having in the southeastern United States lately, we all know somebody who could use a cheerful, get well pick-me-up.

For this card, I purchased a package of round notecards and envelopes from Oriental Trading. Their prices are good and the quality is the same as what’s available in the chain craft stores. But since it was a round notecard (i.e. it’s one piece and doesn’t open) I needed a clever way to turn it into a card. So my light bulb moment, why not add an easel? Next question, where do I find an easel shape? The Make The Cut Gallery, with all its freebies, had the perfect easel. And did you catch that it was FREE? That’s a price you can’t beat.

I used my Zing to cut the easel from some 110 lb. cardstock. I used something heavier than usual so it could support the weight of the flowers and paper on the front of the card. With MTC and Bazinga (my Zing) I cut out two circles, one of patterned paper the other of cardstock. The Get Well Soon sentiment is from a Hero Arts all occasion card stamp set. The oval and scalloped oval are Spellbinders dies. The patterned paper I used is KI Memories from one of the big combo packs at Hobby Lobby. The flowers are from American Crafts and I’ve had them for quite some time and couldn’t figure out what to do with them. They are kind of a shiny plastic. They just worked perfectly with the funky little blossoms on the paper. I did trim the very bottom of the round notecard base just so the card would stand up a bit better. I thought this would be a nice way to cheer up a friend or loved one who isn’t feeling well. And there is plenty of room on the back to write a personal message too.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Until next time, Scrap Sassy!

Saying Thanks

Welcome To The Studio!

If you’re visiting from the Card A Day Blog, thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you come back again soon. If you haven’t been to the Card A Day Blog, please stop by over there. We have a whole host of designers who are happy to share their ideas and techniques with you.

Our theme is Thank You and we could always say that a little more often; right? So here’s a quick and simple design to help you say thanks whenever you need to.

This is a standard 5x7 card. I just used a white premade card base. I used some new Stampin Up pattern paper that I’ve been wanting to play with and just hadn’t had a chance. I also used a sketch (see below) as a jumping off point. All cardstock is Stampin Up. Thank You stamp and ink is Close To My Heart. For the double bow, I used seam binding and my handy, Dad-made, Peg Bow Maker.

Thanks for stopping by and until next time, Scrap Sassy!

I Finished A Layout!

Welcome to the Studio!

I finally had some time to work on a layout. I've been so into cards lately, I haven't had much time to work on my first love...scrapbook layouts.

I was sorting some pictures the other day during the New Year's Purge & Re-organize. This is by far one of my favorite pictures of my little BFF, Julia. I just had to get it scrapped. The layout is bright and cheeful just like Julia. I hope you all enjoy!

Until next time, Scrap Sassy!

Love is in the Air

Welcome to the Studio!
If you’re visiting from the Card A Day Blog, thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you come back again soon. If you haven’t been to the Card A Day Blog, please stop by over there. We have a whole host of designers who are happy to share their ideas and techniques with you.

The theme for the week is, of course, Valentine’s Day. I recently got a new 6x6 paper pad from Echo Park, Truly Yours. I’m totally loving me some EP. I fell in love with the EP For the Record collection and just can’t get enough Echo Park now.

For this card, I simply cut an 8.5x11 piece of paper in half lengthwise. You will get two A2 sized card blanks. That makes it really easy and economical, especially if you have to make a lot of cards. I used Make The Cut and my Zing to cut the shaped pink grid paper. To get the shape I wanted, I welded a rectangle and nested shape similar to some of the Spellbinders shapes. I inked the edges with Memento Tuxedo Black. I normally use either CTMH or SU ink, but since everything is packed up for my January Card Class today, I had to make due with what was still in my scraproom at home. I used a Fiskars scallop border punch to punch the edges of the two square pieces. They are cut the same size, approximately 3x4. And since I just got some new stamps from Verve, I couldn’t wait to use them. I stamped the frame in CTMH Tulip ink and the "love you" in Memento, Tuxedo Black. I added pink seam binding and used my handy peg bow maker. It’s like having an extra set of hands. (I'll have some photos of it up on the blog soon.) I used two Fiskars corner punches to make my wrought iron looking hearts on the top corner. I thought it needed a little extra bling, so I cut – yes, cut – a piece off of a larger swirly pearly bling. It is kind of hard to see in the photo, but it really needs to be there;)

My Supply List:
Cardstock: White, Recollections
Patterned paper: Echo Park, Truly Yours
Stamps: Verve, Swirling Hearts
Ink: Memento, Tuxedo Black and CTMH, Tulip
Punches: Fiskars
Ribbon: Pink seam binding
Bling: Want 2 Scrap
Adhesive: ATG Gun, in pink; Score Tape; Glue Dots

The theme for the week is, of course, Valentine’s Day. And I was still in a vintage, shabby chic sort of mood…

I just used an ivory card blank from one of the craft stores. The patterned paper is from My Minds Eye Lost & Found collection. This is from the 6x6 paper pack. The designs are scaled down and perfect for cards (and less expensive). I used Stampin Up Cherry Cobbler seam binding. I just LOVE seam binding and I’ve got a new tool (peg bow maker) to help me tie pretty bows. My cherub is a stamp from LaBlanche Stamps. They are a newer stamp company and their stamps are mounted on foam blocks, which makes them extremely lightweight. Also, instead of the usual red rubber or acrylic, the stamp itself is made of a white silicone material. The images are very detailed and exquisite. I stamped my image on SU crumb cake cardstock with CTMH black ink. I used a distressing tool to ruff up the edges and inked them with CTMH chocolate ink. I then gave it a quick coating of Sassy Shimmer Spritz (my studio-made glimmer spray) and then I squished it into a little ball to get all the creases and stuff. I used a Martha border punch for a little extra on the black mat. I made a stickpin and added a piece of black feather for fun. The “Amour” tag at the bottom is a strategically punched piece of patterned paper with an SU punch and stamped with the sentiment, also from SU.

My Supply List:
Cardstock: card base, store bought
Patterned paper: MME, Lost & Found
Stamps: LaBlanche, Stampin Up
Ink: Chocolate, Black from CTMH
Punches: Stampin Up and Martha Stewart
Ribbon: Cherry Cobbler seam binding, Stampin Up
Stickpin: Made in the studio
Adhesive: ATG Gun, in pink {Blitsy.com has some great deals!}
