Just Laugh

Well, I said in an earlier post that I was a layout-making fool this past week.  Here's another one I finished the other day.  I've had this handful of pictures that I didn't know what to do with.  It's photos of my Mom and I at the Georgia Renaissance Festival a few years ago doing our usual goofing off, joking around, and constantly smiling and laughing.  That's us.  We get along like two kids and we're always picking on each other and laughing our butts off.  Plus, it's great when you get to "that age" where your mom can't/won't ground you anymore;)  Or at least if she does ground me, I'll get sent to our scraproom...oh, no!  That's like sending a little kid to Disney;)

I used Basic Grey  Lemonade that I got from the clearance rack at Hobby Lobby.  What can I say?  I'm a paper hoarder in every sense of the term and a bargain hunter to boot.  How can you turn down an entire pack of BG for $6.83?  I stamped "Just" on the little flower tags and tied them to some puffy pink tulle.  The "Laugh" banner is attached together with pink ricrac.  It's a really cute, kinda silly layout just like me & mom.

Also, while I was trying to figure out what the heck to do with this pictures, I found a sketch challenge blog and it just so happened the sketch was perfect my pics!

And now I'm stuck like glue to Stuck On U Sketches!  They have some fantastic sketches and an awesome design team.  It's amazing how many different ways this sketch can be translated.  This is my first time playing along with them over at Stuck On U, but it won't be my last.

Christmas Card Double-Header

Welcome to the Studio!

The Card A Day Blog launched its Christmas Card Blog Hop yesterday, and now we're into day two with more crafty goodness. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I was cleaning out my Christmas pattern paper scrap bin and I came across my second most favorite CTMH Christmas collection. It too is retired and a few years old. My reasoning, we're all strapped around the holidays. What better way to save money than to use your scraps! Plus, that gives you a little extra to spend on your layouts;)


These are 5x7 cards. Another tip for "bulk" cardmaking is purchasing the card blanks and envelopes together. The chain craft stores all carry them. If they're not on sale, there's usually a coupon for 40-50% off. Where else could get 50 cards for $5? That's a huge savings!

My first card, I used tone-on-tone patterned paper for a soft look. I inked the edges with CTMH Juniper. The "ornament" strip is also inked with Juniper. The tone-on-tone red stripe is inked in CTMH Tulip. The pink rectangle is CTMH Blush cardstock, inked of course, in CTMH Blush. I also used a Sizzix embossing folder for an extra touch of texture. The next layer is CTMH Olive cardstock. I used a Spellbinders scalloped oval to cut it out. You know I inked it;) I used CTMH Olive. The stamp is one of those clearance sets from Michael's from the post-Christmas sales last year. I used chalk ink from SEI for the image on CTMH white cardstock. After stamping it, I used a Spellbinders oval die to cut it out. For a little extra bling, I Liquid Pearls in Petal Pink and Stickles in Fruit Punch and dotted the flower centers and holly berries. I also added three rhinestones and bit of embroidery floss.


For my second card, I decided to cut the base out of Juniper cardstock. I cut a piece of striped pattern paper and glued my ribbon to it before attaching it to my card base. My mom taught me to "hide my ribbon bits." I only attached the ribbon on the back of the pattern paper with ScorTape, leaving the front loose, so I could slide the two strips of pattern paper underneath. The white cardstock strip was added second and sits flush on top of the striped paper. Then the two pattern paper strips were added. I tied a bow and attached it with a glue dot (aka snot dot, booger dot). I used baker's twine in white and hot pink to tie in the buttons for a little extra zing. The button were attached with glue dots. For the sentiment, I diecut Tulip cardstock with Spellbinders scallop oval. I stamped my image on white cardstock and diecut with Spellbinders oval. I also used Stickles and Liquid Pearls just like on the first card. It's hard to see in the photo, but it looks really cool.

Easter Cards For My Peeps!

Welcome to the Studio. It's time for me to get those Easter cards and projects wrapped up. I'm quite the procrastinator, but as long as I have a deadline, I'm good. (That's what I keep telling myself, anyway.) I just love the Stampin' Up 5th Avenue Florals set. I find it to be very versatile, and the lily is perfect for some more elegant Easter cards. I was getting tired of the same old pastels too, so I used a tone on tone floral yellow paper from the DCWV Mediterrean stack and CTMH Sorbet and White cardstock. I also used two Martha Stewart border punches I recently purchased. I just love the double loops (shown on right). That's my new favorite. I also used some coral organza to give the cards a bit of softness.

I started with just a 5x5 square card and added the white and sorbet circles on top. I wanted a 5x7 card but was looking for a little bit of a sassy twist. Why make a plain, old rectangle card all the time; right?

For my sentiment, I used a clearance stamp that I found at Hobby Lobby a few months ago. To keep it soft, I stamped it in Versamark and used CTMH Cranberry Embossing Powder. For the flowers, I just stamped them in black on CTMH White cardstock and cut them out. Using a marker, CTMH Sunflower, I colored the yellow stamens and used a Sorbet marker on the very tips. I used chalks (remember those?) and mixed a coral and pink together and tinted the flower centers. The middle flower is attached with foam tape to give it a little dimension.

I saw a sketch that I really liked from Verve Stamps, their Viva La Verve March Week 2 sketch. You can find some really fantastic sketches and inspiration on the Verve blog. http://www.vervestamps.blogspot.com/ The patterned paper was from an American Crafts pack I found at TJ Maxx for $5.99. Yes, TJ Maxx has scrap supplies now. The other supplies were CTMH cardstock in Garden Green and White, white grosgrain ribbon, olive green pearls, a doily, a calla lily spray from the bridal department at Hobby Lobby. They are made of resin of some type. I visit the bridal area of my favorite craft stores for flowers, pearls, tulle, etc. that are sometimes cheaper than in the scrapbooking department. Keep an open mind when you're shopping. Scrapbooking supplies, especially embellishments, are everywhere. My husband hates to go to Lowe's and Home Depot with me;)

For the sentiment, I used my clearance Easter stamp with CTMH Sorbet ink and matted it on Sorbet cardstock. The tag is from Silhouette, artisan shapes. I just squished it a little to fit my stamp.

Cards For Little Peeps...

I enjoy making mini cards and they are great for younger (and smaller) hands. These are 3x3. I used some cardstock scraps and some Easter paper from a friend's purge pile. The stamp was a $1 bargain bin stamp from Michaels. I stamped the chick on white cardstock and then stamped it again on yellow. I cut the yellow chick out (except for the tail and head feathers) to give it a bit of dimension. I used markers to color the feathers and added a pink bow to the little girl chick's hair. The inside is another $1 stamp and I just used coordinating ink to stamp and edge the cardstock.
